SoloKey Terms and Conditions
Updated on July 18, 2026
These Terms and Conditions (the “Terms”) govern the use of the SoloKey application (the “App”). By installing or using the App you accept these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. Description of the service
SoloKey is a local-first password manager for Android and for the Windows desktop companion. It lets you create and organize credentials, passwords, secure notes, API keys, TOTP codes, SSH keys and secure files, encrypted and stored on your own devices. Device-to-device sync is optional and works peer-to-peer over your local network.
2. License (open source, MIT)
SoloKey is open source software distributed under the MIT License. The full license text is available in the LICENSE file of the repository (github.com/EzequielAngel0/SoloKey) and prevails over any summary. In simple terms: you may use, copy, modify and redistribute the software, including for commercial purposes, as long as you keep the copyright notice and the license text.
3. Your responsibility for the master password and backups
The App is designed so that only you can decrypt your vault. As a consequence:
- The master password cannot be recovered by the developer. When you create the vault, the App shows you a recovery code exactly once: keep it somewhere safe. If you lose both the master password and the recovery code, your vault is unrecoverable by cryptographic design.
- You are responsible for remembering your master password, safeguarding your recovery code and keeping backups of your vault if you wish, using the App’s encrypted export (
.skvaultfiles). You are also responsible for safeguarding the exported files. - You are responsible for the physical and logical security of your devices.
4. Acceptable use
You agree to use the App in accordance with the law and not to: (a) use it for unlawful activities, including storing or managing credentials obtained illegitimately or belonging to third parties without their authorization; (b) attempt to interfere with other people’s devices through the sync feature; (c) use the App to store or distribute content that infringes third-party rights; (d) redistribute modified versions without keeping the copyright notice and the MIT license, or passing them off as the official SoloKey release.
5. No warranties
The App is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or absence of errors. There is no guarantee that the App will operate uninterrupted or error-free.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer shall not be liable for data loss, loss of access to your vault, or indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, the App. Given the local-first design, losing your master password or your device may mean the permanent loss of your data, and that responsibility rests with the user.
7. Third-party services
The optional leaked password check (Have I Been Pwned) and site icons (Google’s favicon service) features query third-party services subject to their own terms. SoloKey is not affiliated with or endorsed by those providers. Product names and trademarks mentioned belong to their respective owners.
8. Official release and forks
The App’s code is licensed under the MIT terms described in section 2. The name “SoloKey” identifies the developer’s official release: forks are welcome under the license terms, but they must not present themselves as the official release.
9. Changes to the App and to these Terms
The developer may modify, update or discontinue the App, as well as these Terms, with no obligation of support or maintenance. The “Updated on” date indicates the latest revision. Continued use after a change implies acceptance. Given the local-first design, the installed application will keep working even if the download site becomes unavailable.
10. Termination
You may stop using the App and uninstall it at any time. These Terms cease to apply when you uninstall the App, except for the provisions that by their nature should survive (license, limitation of liability).
11. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Mexican States. Any dispute shall be submitted to the competent courts of the state of Jalisco, Mexico, unless the law provides otherwise.
